Buying a new car is relatively easy. You work on a budget then decide on the type of car that fits your needs, head over to the dealership to look at different styles and go on a test drive. You will base your decision on budget and style.
Buying a new pair of shoes also involves a little decision making. Once you figured out the style you like you will need to try them on and make sure they fit nicely. If they do, you head over to the cashier.
When it comes to your home, buying a new one can be a bit trickier. Whether you want to downsize or upsize, figuring out the right size requires some thinking. If you underestimate the space you need you'll end up in a space that feels tight. If you are upsizing, you don't want to be sinking extra money in a property that is larger than you need.
So, how do you avoid these scenarios?
One of the best ways to start is with looking at your current home. Is there a bedroom that is rarely occupied? Has the recreation room become a storage area?
If you are downsizing, getting rid of the extra room can give you an idea of what you will really need and use in a new home.
On the other hand, upsizing can be more challenging as you have to anticipate your future family needs. For example, if you have young kids and the place is feeling cramped then a home with a family room or recreation room may be a good idea. A bigger kitchen with a spacious eating area might do the trick. Think about the extra room you would need and how you would use that space.
When I work with a client I typically start by sitting down with them and understanding all the needs and wants and what type of home they are looking to find. I want to hear all the details and based on needs, likes and budget I can make expert recommendations.
Bottom line, I pride myself in finding the perfect fit in a new home.
